COVERING SHARP EDGES

I participated in the project (The Boxes Project), a collaborative work by Rebwar Saed that gave more than one hundred boxes to different artists to build something related to the Anfal Genocide. At the time, I was thinking critically about the process of the project how distributing square boxes is something related to Idea of modernity, and also how the process of Anfal was also an effort for homogenizing the Iraqi Identity in one unified identity and if that needed sacrifices of two hundred souls and destroying more than five thousand villages, to fit the society in new modern houses it will be a minor sacrifices, like many other modernist projects, my effort was to cover the entire box with natural animal wool made fibres in a way its edges disappear and become a new form that doesnβt have sharp edges, the Idea was to show that, some Ideas like modernity being covered wit local or a struggle to reshape the modernity and its harsh edges that injured society that is more natural and more close to nature.. and using these natural Kurdish fibers as a resistance that can recover tragic history.
This Idea of the work, and the use of fibre, also extended to some other works like (Gwris (the Rope 2014) and also (58x47.7 x 61.5 workshop 2004).
