Frash Almonds from Ser Marya los Spain 2013 - 2014

The seminars Poster at Cultural Cafe Silemany 2014

During the residency at Joya: Art + Ecologia Rebeen noticed that the almond trees are left with many fresh green almonds. This was a surprise because in his home country, the fresh green almond is one of the most beloved foods; through more research and questions, many layers were revealed, showcasing different politics behind the leftover almonds. Linking neoliberalism to the transformation of the almond industry from Spain to California. The dream of making Spain the world's main almond producer, and some ecological catastrophes: replanting large farms with almond trees instead of naturally varied trees, with almond trees imported from Syria, most likely from the Kurdish region. How the big farms were evacuated after the shift to almond production in the USA; then the farms couldn't survive the price competition, so they were left as they were.

The collected almonds were brought back to London because nobody had a desire to eat the fresh green almonds; then it was spread among the Kurdish Families who were living there, some of them were away from this nostalgic taste for decades. The aim was to make them feel at home, even for a few seconds, while the whole context gives another dimension: the politics that connect the world together.

2013 The packages got ready to be sent in London and examples the seminar in Camberwel College London.
