Sermedy in 437.072 SQ KM
2007 Sermedy le 437.072 SQ KM, Exhibition / Silemany National Museum Gallery β Red Jail (Amna Sooraka). An exhibition for 22 artists, on the theme of religion but on the daily uses of the religion or its effect living and aspects of modern living.
The project was built based on long discussions that happened among our generation that wanted to establish some new forms of art practice that build a new understanding of art in Kurdistan, Iraq.
My work is based on a discussion and exchange between photographer and artist Jamal Penjweny and me about the Idea that religions, especially Islam and in the mosque form, are only broadcasting facts and wisdom to the outside and never listen to what their audiences might say to them or go through the process of self development, that's why the forms of religions and especialy mosques are remaining the same form for centuries.
in my work, I allowed the audience to build this connection between inside and outside. There were six megaphones placed on the outside of the building in different places, also connected to twenty speakers installed on a wall inside the gallery space, and there were microphones close to the megaphones that a system were build to transform sounds from the microphones to speakers and build an exchange mechanism for the sound to make a relation between inside the gallery and other sounds that were coming from the microphones..
